most important and precious shrine of the city is the cave in which the baby Jesus was born. Above the cave is the Church of the Nativity of Christ - the most ancient temple of Palestine.

The temple on the site of the Nativity of Christ was erected by order of Emperor Constantine the Great.

2. The star has 14 rays and symbolizes the Bethlehem star, inside there is an inscription in Latin in a circle (“Jesus Christ was born here from the Virgin Mary”)

3. Above this star, in a semicircular niche, hang 16 lamps, of which 6 belong to the Orthodox, 6 Armenians and 4 Catholics.
