Colony of Dignidad

Villa Baviere, also the Bavarian Villa, formerly Colony of Dignitad - a German settlement in Chile, founded in 1961 by Paul Schaefer, officially named "Charitable and Educational Society Dignidad "

The founders of "Dignidad" owned multimillion-dollar estate, profitable real estate, prosperous enterprises.

His "subjects" - a total of 300 people, mostly Germans - idolize their leader, omnipotent, all-seeing, not forgiving, and are ready to go with him to the most extreme measures to counter the authorities.

Years passed, and the colony "Dignidad" literally blossomed due to free labor, lack of a tax burden, entrepreneurial talent of Schaefer and the company.

The borders of Diignadad were guarded no less carefully than other strategic military bases.

It is with the colony that the mysterious disappearance of American Boris Weisfeyler was enigmatic in December 1984.

After September 11, 1973, the colony granted its territory and buildings for the needs of DINA, ie. for the deployment of an underground torture center.

Now Hopp is emerging more and more clearly as the new official leader of the ex-colony "Dignidad".

In May 2006, having found him guilty of numerous outrages over minors and other residents of the colony "Dignidad", the court sentenced him to 20 years in prison.

Now the colony of Dignidad is an ordinary German settlement, which is not so small in the south of Chile.

In 2014, criminal proceedings were instituted against former members of the colony and DINA agents associated with them.

In 2015, Florian Gallenberger directed a feature film "The Colony" (in the Russian box office the film is called "The Colony of Dignidad").
