Conversion. Classification

When the spelling and pronunciation are the same, but the function, part of speech, the meaning have changed we have a conversion. It’s a type of word-formation which consists of making a new word by changing the category of the part of speech. Conversation is one of the most productive types of English word-formation, because of the analytical type of the language.

Classification
It is when the noun is a name of a tool and the verb which is formed denotes an actions, which is performed by this tool:
Ex. a brush- to brush
a pencil – to pencil
a nail – to nail

2. When the noun is the name of an animal and the verb denotes an action or way of behavior for this animal:
Ex. a monkey- to monkey
!!! a wolf- to wolf (eat hungrily)

3. Nouns which denotes a part of a human body. When we form a verb, it denotes an action performed by this or that part of human body:
Ex. an elbow – to elbow (to push)
a shoulder – to shoulder (to support)
!!! a face – to face
a back – to back (to support)

4. The nouns which are the names of the professions or occupations:
Ex. a cook – to cook
a nurse – to nurse

5. Nouns are the names of some places and the verb denotes the process of occupying the place or putting something into it:
Ex. a land –to land
a table – to table
a room –to room
a place – to place

6. Nouns are the names of a container and the verbs denote an act of putting something into it:
Ex. a bottle – to bottle
a pocket – to pocket
a can – to can
We eat what we can, and what we can’t eat we can.

7. Noun is the name of a meal, the verb denotes the process of taking this meal:
Ex. lunch – to lunch
breakfast – to breakfast
