Franklin Delano Roosevelt

Franklin Delano Roosevelt was born into a wealthy family and James Roosevelt. Father Roosevelt possessed hereditary estates Hyde Park on the Hudson river and solid blocks of shares in some coal and transport companies. Roosevelt's mother, Sara Delano, also belonged to the local aristocracy.

At the time of official inauguration of Roosevelt as President, the country experienced the deepest and most widespread economic crisis in its history: the banking and financial system of the USA has failed utterly.
Interestingly, for the first eleven days of his presidency, Roosevelt led the Congress more legislation than his predecessors for the previous 70 years. And for the first hundred days he has developed a set of reforms that the President called "a New course". The reforms of labor legislation in the States was defeated unemployment, restored the banking system.

Interesting facts
Franklin Delano Roosevelt was an avid philatelist. His collection of stamps from various countries he had collected since childhood and never parted. Numerous albums with stamps kept in a large wooden box. The President loved to review albums with stamps before bedtime, devoting to this task several hours. Love to brands Franklin instilled in his parents, the child opened the world of philately when he was 8 years old. While trading with many countries and travelling a lot, everywhere they sent the stamps of different countries for collection of the son.

Roosevelt's wife, Eleanor, was known as a very active woman, participating in political and public life of America. Once going for charitable purposes in prison, about his visit she forgot to warn her husband. And when the husband woke and found his wife, he asked about the whereabouts of Eleanor at the Desk of the Secretary. The question was answered: "In prison". Then Franklin Delano Roosevelt responded with a question: "It doesn't surprise me. And what is she doing?".

One of the meeting rooms in the West wing of the White house is called the Roosevelt room. This is the name she was given in 1969 in honor of two former presidents: Theodore Roosevelt, which was originally built West wing, and Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who expanded it. The room has the portraits of these presidents, periodically changing places.
Mysterious, but contrary to all U.S. laws that require an autopsy in cases of sudden death, the body of Franklin Roosevelt is not opened. And even despite the fact that according to American tradition, the bodies of deceased presidents are placed in an open coffin to bid farewell to them, this did not happen. On the contrary, the corpse of the President was buried in a closed coffin. Moreover, the body was accompanied by armed guards, received orders to shoot at anyone who tries to open the coffin. And after the funeral grave in Hyde Park was guarded day and night for several months armed guards.
