Founded in the early XVII century.
On November 2.1708 Moscow troops led by Alexander Menshikov
captured Baturin, completely destroyed the defensive castle and the city itself. The victims were 6-7.5 thousand civilians and 5-6.5 thousand soldiers .
After 1760 Hetman Kyrylo Razumovsky, intended to return hetman capital status to Baturyn but didn’t succeed.
