A timeline can help students to see the correct uses of different
tenses (e.g. present perfect vs past simple) represented in a visual way.

Teacher Instructions

This resource includes a line representing the past, present and future. The symbols can be moved around the timeline to show different tenses.
For example, a single action in the past could be shown with a series of crosses in the ‘past’ area of the timeline. An action that continued over a period of time could be shown with a wavy line. An action that happened within a period of time could be shown within a circle or rectangle. This resource also includes arrows to show the relationship between two events - helpful when explaining the past perfect or future perfect tenses.
