History and origins.
On April 21, 1856, Australian stonemasons in Victoria undertook a mass stoppage as part of the 8 hour day movement. It became a yearly commemoration, inspiring American workers to have their first stoppage. 1 May was chosen to be International Workers’ Day to commemorate the 1886 Haymarket affair in Chicago. In that year beginning on 1 May, there was a general strike for the eight-hour workday.
And slowly it became an international holiday in most countries including Egypt.

Labor day in Egypt.
Labor day has become a symbol of the struggle for the workers throughout the country.
In 1924 in Alexandria, Egypt. The workers gathered at the headquarters of the workers union and started a huge protests throughout the city.
Which forced the president gamal abdulnaser to recognize that day as “the workers day”
In 1964 the workers day became an official holiday in which the president will give a speech to the workers.

The communist party.
The communist party was founded in Egypt, Alexandria in 1921.
The communist party organized the protest for workers rights in 1924.
Gaining huge support in the fifties.
They face repression under the current Egyptian rule and are often arrested and are banned from running in elections.
They continued to operate underground and shape the Egyptian workers.
In 2011 the party took to the streets to protest the workers rights and invite people to join.
