The Australian continent is located within the three main warm climatic zones of the southern hemisphere:subequatorial, tropical , subtropical.

Subequatorial climate characteristic for Northern and the North-Eastern part of the Australian continent .It differs by stream of temperatures and high precipitation . Wet North-West monsoon brings rainfall here and rainfall is usually in summer. In winter, in the dry period of the year, it rains occasionally.

Tropical belt of the Australian continent is formed by two main types of climate:tropical wet, tropical dry.

A tropical monsoon climate is inherent in the far Eastern part of Australia, which is in the zone of action of the South-Eastern winds.

These winds bring with them to the mainland air masses from the Pacific ocean.

Australia is the driest сontinent of the Earth, and one of the most characteristic features of the nature of it is a wide spread of desert.

The Central and Western part of Australia, earn about 250-300 mm of precipitation per year, but these are minor precipitation is irregular, in general there are no rains, and sometimes , for two or three days, and then for a few hours falls all of the annual precipitation.

Within the subtropical belt Australia there are three types of climate: Mediterranean, subtropical continental and subtropical moist.

The Mediterranean climate is typical for the South-Western part of Australia. The climate of this part of the country is similar to the climate of the European Mediterranean countries- Spain and southern France.

The zone of subtropical continental climate covers the South part of the continent. The main features of the climate are small quantity of precipitation and relatively large annual variation in temperature.

Hot climate and low and irregular precipitation in most part of the continent leads to he fact that almost 60% of its territory are deprived of runoff to the ocean.
