Biography
He was born on December 26, 1846 (January 7, 1847) in the Turyinsky mines of the Perm province, in the family of mining engineer P. M. Karpinsky (1808-1856) and Maria Ferdinandovna Karpinskaya (nee Grashof, granddaughter of mining engineer P. V. Anosov (1766-1809)

Biography

He died at 1: 50 am on July 15, 1936 in Udelnoye, near Moscow. The funeral was attended by the leaders of the USSR and personally I. V. Stalin. The urn with the ashes of A. P. Karpinsky rests in the center of Moscow in the Kremlin Wall. Academician Karpinsky is the oldest (by date of birth) of those buried on Red Square.

Education
In 1857-1866, he studied at St. Petersburg in He graduated from the Corps of Mining Engineers with a gold medal with the rank of lieutenant. After graduating from the Corps, he worked for two years in the Urals

Career
In 1868, he was called to St. Petersburg to teach at the Mining Institute.
In 1869 he defended his thesis for the title of associate professor in the Department of Geology, and in 1877 he was elected professor of the Department of Geology, Geognosy and Ore Deposits of the Mining Institute, where he lectured on historical geology, petrography and ore deposits until 1896.
In 1894, he was awarded the honorary title of Distinguished Professor Mining Institute.
