he became interested in chemistry. In 1895, he joined the Natural Sciences Department of Physics and Mathematics Faculty of St. Petersburg University. Under the guidance of Professor, Academician of the future Favorsky completed graduate work. In 1899, for taking part in student demonstrations Lebedev was arrested and deported almost a year out of the capital. In 1900 he graduated from the University of St. Petersburg, and from 1902 began to work at the university, engaging chemistry of hydrocarbons. In 1910, he managed to get the first sample of synthetic butadiene rubber.
