Who is a disciple?
A disciple is a dedicated follower and imitator of his master. Hence, a Christian disciple is an imitator of Christ Phil 2:5, Acts 11:26
What is discipleship?
Discipleship is a process whereby a Christian who has voluntarily surrendered to Jesus is made to become like Christ Mt. 11:29. It is not a one time thing but a daily and a life-long process. 1 Cor. 15:31
God has a plan for everyone and wants us to conform in all things to the image and life of Jesus Christ. Rm. 8:29

As a disciple, you can either glorify your master or betray him.
You can glorify your master by:
Worshipping him
Testifying of his mighty acts and telling others about him
Demonstrating His mighty power and
Living a holy lifestyle

How does one become a disciple?
By firstly submitting to the leadership of the Lord Jesus Christ Jn. 15:14.
To submit means to fully yield control to another and as it has been said, “If He is not Lord of all in your life then it is doubtful is He is your Lord at all.”
You should not have areas of your life that you can not submit to Jesus.

How does one become a disciple?
By yielding to the leading of the Holy Spirit 2 Cor. 3:18, Jn. 16:13-14. The Holy Spirit will transform us daily into the image of Christ if we yield to His leading.
By regular study of and obedience to God’s Word 2 Tim. 2:15, Jn. 15:14
By submitting to godly leadership and godly mentoring of church leaders 2 Tim 2:1-2
Through prayer 1 Thess. 5:17 i.e. continuous communication between you and the Master.

Things to do as a disciple
A disciple must take up his cross daily and this process involves dying to self. Matt. 16:24, Matt. 10:38. Dying to self is a must if you are going to be a true disciple.
Things that a disciple must die to include selfish ambitions, love of praises, lust of the eyes, lust of the flesh and the pride of life.
The Bible says that those that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its affections and lusts Gal. 5:24.
A disciple must deny himself of ungodly and world living if he truly wants to please his Master. 1 Jn 2:15-17, Gal 5:19-21,24.
Your conduct both in public and in private must not bring any form of reproach to your Master’s Name.

Things to do as a disciple
A disciple must be willing to forsake all for Christ Lk. 5:9-11, Mt. 19:27,29
A disciple must be willing preach the Gospel and make disciples of others Acts 1:8, Mk 16:15-18
A disciple must be willing to endure hardship because the process of becoming a disciple is not always an easy one 2 Tim. 2:3, Matt. 8:18-20, 2 Cor. 6:4-10
A disciple must have a Christ-like attitude and should emulate Jesus’ behaviour Phil 2:5-9, Gal. 5:22-23
