There are four main kinds of word formation:
Prefixes (undemocratic, unusual);
Suffixes (treatment, simplify);
Conversion (change of a word from one word class to another, e.g. to email, to google);
Compounding (link together two or more bases e.g. heartbreaking, baby-sit, nevertheless)
Word formation

The process or device of adding affixes to or changing the shape of a base to give it a different syntactic function without changing its class form.
E.g. easy – easiest, stop – stopped, write – writing;
Inflection

It may be said that, in a way, morphology is more abstract than syntax, as it does not study connections between words actually used together in sentences, but connections between forms actually found in different sentences and, as it were, extracted from their natural surroundings;
