St. Jerome (347-420 AD) is the patron saint of translators

2. Speaking of the Bible, translation has a patron saint. Saint Jerome was named as the patron saint for the profession of translation after he translated the Bible in the 5th century.

St. Jerome was an early Christian scholar who translated most of the Bible from Hebrew and Greek into Latin.

His translation, known as the Vulgate.

St Jerome’s famous statament on translation process “Now I not only admit but freely announce that in translating from the Greek-except ofcourse in the case of Holly Scripture, where even the syntax contains a mystery-I render not word- for-word, but sense-for-sense (St. Jerome 395 Ce/1997:25).
