Right on Track with Forces of Motion Materials: 2 game pieces Game Set Up: Make a pile of question cards. Place the pile of question cards face down on the table. Place the answer key face down on the table. Put the game board in the middle of the table. Directions: Player 1 takes a card and answers the question. Player 2 checks the answer key to see if Player 1 is correct. If Player 1 is correct, he moves ahead 1 space on the game board and keeps the card. MOULIN ROUGE The Moulin Rouge was an incredibly popular venture at the time that it was opened. Owners Joseph Oller and Charles Zidler said that it was the first “Palace for women.” The venue did achieve great popularity after opening in 1889. It was well-known in Paris to be a place where men could go for entertainment and women would perform dance moves for them along with other services. The stories that came from within the Moulin Rouge were alarming and they caused a huge outcry from an outraged public. INSIDE THE MOULIN ROUGE The use of opium and absinthe by the infamous celebrities of the time were partly what made the venue so popular, but it did not always remain this way. Not a lot is known about what happened in this venue from firsthand accounts, but the Moulin Rouge has become a huge part of Parisian history. Unlike in Hollywood depictions of the Moulin Rouge, it is not true that women had to sell their bodies to make a living. They simply had to make conversation, entertain men and be the life and soul of the party. They were very skilled at the art of seduction and often formed long-lasting relationships with the European elite. They were also considered celebrities and disliked by many people. The press followed their every movement. This certainly added to the perception that many Parisians already had of these women and this venue.

Once while Karakhan khan was walking along the streets of that great city, Karakhan came across Aisha Bibi, the beautiful daughter of Khakim-Ata. When Karakhan and Aisha Bibi saw each other they both fell in love. Karakhan went to Aisha’s father to ask if he could marry his daughter but Khakim-Ata refused. Before he left, Aisha Bibi and Karakhan made a secret promise to marry each other. A few weeks passed, but Aisha Bibi had no news from Karakhan. She decided to travel to Taraz to find him. Her mother helped her pack a few things to take with her and sent her old nanny Babadzha Khatun with her. But as Khakim-Ata saw his daughter riding away he shouted a curse after her: “You will cross six rivers, but you will not cross the seventh!” Before they crossed the seventh river, they stopped so Aisha could bathe, forgetting her father’s curse. Just then, a poisonous snake leapt from under a rock and bit her. The poison was fast. Aisha Bibi begged her nanny to ride ahead to Taraz and bring Karakhan to her. When Karakhan arrived, Aisha Bibi died in his arms. The noble Karakhan ordered that a beautiful mausoleum would be built in the exact place that she died. Her faithful nanny Babadzha Khatun guarded the mausoleum until her own death.
