Dmitry Glukhovsky
Biography Dmitry Glukhovsky was born and raised in Moscow. He graduated from the school number 1231 in Arbat district, with advanced learning of French, and having already decided to become a writer at an early age, and conceived the idea for Metro 2033 at age of 15. From age 17, he left Russia to study in Israel, living there for 4 1/2 years, learning Hebrew, and receiving a university degree in journalism and international relations at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, which he completed in Hebrew no differently to native language Israeli students, who were mostly 5 years older than him. Becoming The very first version of “Metro 2033” was ready in 2002. Having received refusals from all the publishers, who got the script, Glukhovsky simply decided to palce it in Internet, fully and with free access. It was rather innovative, if not an unprecedented move. The novel was finally published then in 2005 and again in 2007 (overworked & complete), later became one of the main bestsellers of 2000s – 350 000 copies only in 3 months! It was translated into 37 languages, and proved to be a greate basis for a computer game, made by ukrainian developers (4A Games), which though didn’t eclipsed the popularity of the most admirable and famous project on the post-soviet space – S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (made by GSC in 2007), but equally recognizable and appreciable. Funny fact: the game developers previously worked in GSC, but decided to leave in 2005 due to low salary.
