Trainspotting. My opinion and impressions
Trainspotting. My opinion and impressions
ABOUT AUTHOR Irvine Welsh - Scottish writer, author of the acclaimed novel “Trainspotting”. Often, the heroes of his works are the marginal and the typical representatives of the Edinburgh working class, and the works themselves are replete with black humor, social satire and various Scottish dialectisms. Irwin wrote this novel based on his life experience. He is one of the few who overcame the HIV epidemic, the era of death from overdose and other things. The novel “Trainspotting” was first published in 1993, later a full-length film was shot on it PLOT IN BRIEF The plot of the work revolves around the everyday life of young people in Edinburgh, more specifically, its port area - Leith. Most of the main and secondary characters suffer from heroin addiction. The novel consists of several short stories with headlines that sometimes do not comply with the time order in the development of the action. The novel is set in Edinburgh, London and on the road between them. The novel contains a large number of scenes of violence, the heroes constantly take drugs and commit various asocial acts. In the novel there is no author's speech and everything that happens is transmitted from the words of the main characters. All chapters are a stream of thoughts and memories of the hero who is currently leading the story. For example, the speech of Murphy is very confused, contains many references and questions to the intended listener; Begbie's narrative contains especially a lot of profanity, stands out for aggressive attitudes towards others and everything that happens; Simon often refers in his monologues to Sean Connery and imitates his response lines; when transferring Renton's thoughts during heroin breaking, the author purposefully does not use punctuation marks in some places and writes some words and phrases using upper case.
