Where does the celebration come from? Many holidays and traditions that we
enjoy today were created by people from ancient cultures.
However, not all the traditions were created by them. Mother’s day is an example of a “modern” tradition created in the XIX Century.

of the American Civil War.
She was the 9th of 11 children.
As Anna grew up, she rarely noticed all her mother did for her family and how important her mother was.

to have another chance to let her Mom know how much she was appreciated and loved. But it was too late.
Anna decided to create a new holiday, to remind people thank their own Mom, at least once each year.
She wrote many letters to different Presidents in United States asking them to put a esepcial day for all mothers.

Day proclamation, stating that the observance serves as a "public expression of our love and reverence for the mothers of our country."
This made Mother’s Day an official national holiday, celebrated each year on the 2nd Sunday in May.
