Past tenses

- Действие произошло в указанное время в прошлом.
He came home yesterday. - Действия в прошлом происходили одно за одним последовательно.
She went back home, had dinner and watched TV.
Past Simple

- Действие в процессе развития, которое происходило в определенный момент в прошлом.
- I was watching TV this time yesterday.
- описывает несколько одновременных действий, выполняемых разными людьми в определенный момент времени.
-используется для описания действия в развитии, которое было прервано другим прошлым действием, выраженным Past Simple
-I met Sasha when I was coming back home.
Past Continuous
was + V
were + V

1.Paul (make) a phone call when I went into his office.
2. Paul (make) some coffee first and then he (make) some phone calls.
3. As it (get) dark, the boys decided to go home.
4. When it (get) dark, all the lights in the park went on.
5. The baby (fall) asleep, as soon as we put her in her bed.
6. As the baby (fall) asleep, she was making some funny sounds.

- действие, которое завершилось в прошлом, к указанному моменту.
- He had done his homework by 5 o’clock.
- Описывает действие, которое произошло перед другим действием(выраженным в Past Simple) в прошлом.
- When he came to the cinema, the film had already began.
Past Perfect
had V-ed; had –V-3 form

- Описывает действие, которое началось и закончилось в прошлом, обычно с since или for.
-He had been working as a teacher for ten years.
- Обозначает действие, которое длилось некоторое время в прошлом, и описывает его результат(в прошлом).
- He had been working all day long, so he was really tired.
Past Perfect Continuous (had been V-ing)

1.Paul (decide) that he was going to study Astronomy before he even finished secondary school.
2. Tom didn’t come with us last night because he (arrange) to go out with his colleagues after work. 3.Before they invented washing machines, people (wash) their clothes by hands for centuries.
4.Jil (wait) for half an hour before the bus came.
5.He ( already / announce) the names of the students who would be in his team.
6.They ( live) in Spain before they moved to London.
