Степени сравнения прилагательных в английском языке

СТЕПЕНИ СРАВНЕНИЯ ПРИЛАГАТЕЛЬНЫХ (DEGREES OF COMPARISON)
Имена прилагательные в английском языке имеют три степени сравнения: положительную (the Positive Degree), сравнительную (the Comparative Degree) и превосходную (the Superlative Degree).
Степени сравнения односложных прилагательных образуются путем прибавления суффиксов к прилагательным в положительной степени: в сравнительной степени прибавляется суффикс -еr, в превосходной степени -суффикс -est.

Cold – colder – the coldest
Clean – cleaner – the cleanest

Если односложное прилагательное оканчивается на одну согласную с предшествующим кратким гласным звуком, в написании удваивается конечная согласная буква:
big - bigger – the biggest
hot- hotter- the hottest

В прилагательных, оканчивающихся на -у, стоящую после согласной, перед суффиксами -er, -est -у меняется на i:
busy - busier - (the) busiest
happy -happier -(the) happiest

Все многосложные прилагательные, а также двусложные, не оканчивающиеся на -у, -er, -ow, образуют степени сравнения при помощи служебных слов more более- для сравнительной степени и (the) most наиболее, самый- для превосходной степени:
useful полезный -more useful - (the) most useful
difficult трудный - more difficult - (the) most difficult
