Ancient times
More than 2000 years ago writers began to make lists of wonderful buildings which they had seen before.
About 120 year BC the Greek poet described 7 such wonders.
That list was like a tourist guide.
But now only one exists.
They are called as 7 world wonders.

GREAT PYRAMID OF GIZA
This pyramid id the most ancient of 7 world wonders. Besides, it’s the only wonder that exists now. It had been the highest building in the world for 4000 years.
The pyramid was built as a coffin of Heops.
He was a famous pharaohs of ancient Egypt. It took 20 years to create it.

HANGING GARDENS OF BABYLON
Hanging gardens of Babylon were one of the most famous wonders.
They were built about 6000 year BC.
The legend says that the tsar ordered to build them for his wife.
The success of the gardens is the system of watering.

THE STATUE OF ZEUS
Almost 3000 years ago Olympia was an important religious center of South-West Greece. Ancient Greeks admired Zeus.
In the 5th century the citizens of Olympia decided to build the palace and the statue of Zeus.
About 40 year BC Caligula decided to remove the statue to Rome. But the statue laughed very loudly, so workers ran away. Later the statue was removed to Constantinople.
Then the palace was ruined because of the fire.

THE TEMPLE OF ARTEMIS
Cress, the tsar of Lidia, decided to build the palace for the Moon Goddess Artemida.
In the middle of the palace there was the statue of Artemida.
In 356 year BC the palace was buried by Herostat who just wanted to become famous.

THE MAUSOLEUM IN HALICARNASSUS
Mausol was a ruler of Caria. He was very rich and decided to build the coffin for himself and his wife.
The coffin was called the Mausoleum. He died before finishing its building.
But his wife continued to run the building.
After 18 centuries the earthquake ruined the Mausoleum.

THE COLOSSUS OF RHODES
The Colossus was a giant statue in Rhodes. In ancient times the citizens of Rhodes wanted to be independent.
The Greeks besieged with them several times but unfaithfully. The citizens built the statue for the Sun God to thank him.
The statue was built from bronze and was 33 meters long.
After 50 years the statue was ruined because of the earthquake.

The Great Pharos Lighthouse
The lighthouse was built in the 3rd century BC to help ships avoid reefs.
It was the 1st lighthouse and it had been standing for 1500 years.
The lighthouse was built on a small island Faros in the Mediterranean Sea.
Ships could see it in 50 km. in the 15th century the lighthouse was ruined because of the earthquake.

Modern world’s wonders

This strange modern building is one of the most famous sights in Australia. It’s surrounded by water and its roofs look like sails. It started building in 1959. It was 67 meters long.
The House was officially opened by the Queen Elisabeth II in 1973. There is no doubt that the Sydney Opera House is his masterpiece.
It is one of the great iconic buildings of the 20th century, an image of great beauty that has become known throughout the world – a symbol for not only a city, but a whole country and continent.

Channel Tunnel links England and France. In 1881, Colonel Beaumont and Captain English from Britain tried to dig a tunnel. Queen Victoria stopped them, because it was dangerous.
The new tunnel (ready in 1993) is, in fact, 3 tunnels – 2 for trains and a ‘service tunnel’.
A special radio station called Channel Tunnel has started, because it’s impossible to receive normal radio signals.

The Golden Gate Bridge
The Golden Gate Bridge had the longest suspension bridge span in the world when it was completed in 1937 and has become an internationally recognized symbol of San Francisco and California.
Since its completion, the span length has been surpassed by eight other bridges. It still has the second longest suspension bridge main span in the United States, after the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge in New York City.
In 2007, it was ranked fifth on the List of America's Favorite Architecture by the American Institute of Architects.

It is the only over speed plane.
Its building made the revolution in air transport.
It is the symbol of speed and luxury.

In January 2009, the Sky deck began a major renovation which includes the installation of window space which will extend approximately four feet out over Wacker Drive. The new installations will be boxes made entirely of glass, allowing visitors to look through the glass floor to the street 1,353 feet (412 m) below.
SEARS TOWER

The John F. Kennedy Space Center is the NASA space vehicle launch facility and Launch Control Center (spaceport) in the United States.
There is a visitor center and public tours; KSC is a major tourist destination for visitors to Florida.
Kennedy Space Center's only launch operations are at Launch Complex 39.
All other launch operations take place at the adjacent Cape Canaveral Air Force Station (CCAFS), which is operated by the US Air Force.
