Aerological Diagram

Definition
A diagram of atmospheric thermodynamics plotted from upper-atmospheric soundings; usually contains various reference lines such as isobars and isotherms.

In Russia aerological diagram is a group of dry and wet adiabats for different values of temperature and height (or pressure).
The horizontal axis represents temperature.
The vertical axis represents the logarithms of pressure and height of the standart isobaric surfaces

Meteorologists in Russia plot the aerological diagram using the data of radiosondes, 2-4 times a day at special stations at 0, 6, 12, 18 hours GMT.

Analysis of the aerological diagram can determine the type of the air masses, clouds stratification the position of the frontal zone above the sensing point, temperature inversion layer, icing conditions, bumpiness of the aircraft.
