The seaport of Odessa is one of the biggest in Ukraine and it is an exciting example of modern structure combining glass and steel. NU “OMA” was established as Maritime Higher Education Institution in 1944
During the process of development the institution had different names

2002 - Odessa National Maritime Academy
2016 - National University «Odessa Maritime Academy»

* About 10, 800 cadets study at National University «Odessa Maritime Academy» .
* The University was accredited by the State Board of Ukraine with accreditation level IV (the highest).
* The studies are carried out according to the 3-cycle system of education.
* The system of ship’s crew training is in compliance with the requirements of the International Convention STCW-78 as amended which give graduates the right to work on all types of vessels of national and foreign shipping companies.

Southern Palmira, the Black Sea Babylon, Little Paris, Capital of the South are the epithets which refer to
Odessa. The materials of high-quality have been brought to Odessa by the sea. Architects from Europe realized
the dreams in projects of building of the city. For this reason, set of the unique Palaces having its history are
not less interesting, than histories of their authors’ lives.
This giant stairway consisting of 192 steps links the city centre to the seaport. The name 'Potemkin' became official only after the war in the 50-s. Prior to that, the official name was Primorskiy stairs, or "Maritime stairs"
