British people like holidays. Here are some of the traditional holidays they celebrate: first of January- New Year`s Day, fourteenth of February - St.Valentine`s Day, March or April - Easter Festival, thirty-first of October - Halloween, fifth of November- Guy Fawkes` Night, twenty-fifth of December- Christmas Festival.

People in Britain celebrate Christmas on twenty-fifth of December. Families decorate their homes and Christmas trees. People prepare presents, make Christmas cakes. Children often write letters to Father Christmas with their wishes. On Christmas Day everyone opens presents and sits down to the table to have turkey or goose with vegetables. After dinner the family gathers in the living room to listen to the Queen on TV.

One of the international holidays is St. Valentine’s Day. This holiday has its story about two sweethearts, that’s why it’s called the day of all sweethearts. On this day many people make a declaration of love and propose marriage. And if they’ve already found their love, they just remind about it and make surprises or give presents to each other. The main symbol of this holiday is valentine. It’s a small heart-shaped card. It is put into the postbox of that person whom you like.

Halloween
One of the national festivals of English-speaking countries is Halloween. It takes place on October 31 on Allhallows Eve. The pumpkin is a symbol of this festival in which offensive face is cut out. A lighted candle is put into the pumpkin. It was considered that pumpkin left about the house on All Saints' Day drove off malignant demons.
