The Study of the American Democracy in Today's World
To elicit the contradictions between the main principles
of a democratic system and their modern realization in
the USA.
With this goal in mind we identified the main tasks:
To study the concepts of democracy.
To outline all kinds of democracy.
To trace the history of the development of democracy in America.
To study the foundations of the democratic government of the USA.
To examine the current policies of the USA in regard of their compliance with democratic principles.

The Concepts of Democracy
Direct or indirect (through elective representatives) governance of the country by people;
The State, the country, the community, which has the democratic government;
Governing of the majority;
Perception and realization of the principle of equality of rights and freedom of citizens, as well as their opportunities.

The History of the Development of Democracy in America
1607 – The first successful English colony (Jamestown) was founded in the present state of Virginia.
July 4, 1776, the Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence.
The Treaty of Paris was signed in 1783.
March 1789 The American representative (indirect) democratic system in the form of a constitutional republic was established in the Constitution of the United States.
There are 27 amendments which have been added to the Constitution. The most important are:
13 – outlaws slavery
14 – guarantees all citizens equal protection of the laws
19 – gives women the right to vote (Ratified in August, 1920)
