Вначале Музей собаки Американского клуба собаководства размещался в Нью-Йорке, но постепенно его коллекция все увеличивалась, и музею потребовалось отдельное помещение. В 1986 году он переехал в отдельный особняк в г. Сент-Луис.
Первый в мире Музей собаки открылся в 1982 году в Америке. Мысль о его создании возникла еще десятью годами раньше у нескольких членов Вестминстерского клуба собаководства. Они мечтали собрать большую коллекцию произведений искусства и книг, посвященных собакам, и устраивать по всей стране передвижные выставки, чтобы как можно больше людей узнали о роли собак в истории человечества
