From the history : The first permanent theatre in London was built
a carpenter, James Burbage.
His younger son Richard was the first leading English actor.
The elder Cuthbert acted as his brother`s manager.
As in Greece, there were no women on the stage. Boys specially selected for their slight build and light voices were trained to play such parts as Juliet or Rosalind. All the actors had to be dancers and singers.
After the age of Shakespeare the English theatre had no great success.

The actors are not playing to microphones and cameras but to warmly responsive audience.

Theatre broadens your mind, enriches your inner world.
You can experience the community of feelings.
Theatre is a recreation and at the same time a work of your soul.
It is better to stay at home and have tet-a-tete with your TV-set.
There is a great variety of film genres. They can also catch your attention from the first minute.
You can` t see lots of special effects which films are usually packed with.

MY LAST VISIT TO THE THEATRE “REAL THEATRE IS ALWAYS RELIGION. A
PLAY IS,TO THE AUDIENCE, AN EXPRESSION OF TRUTH” Maxwell Anderson

The last performance I saw at our local Drama theatre by L. N. Tolstoy was
“Lost in a battle.” I was glad to know that it would have a historical
story line. My classmates and I met at the entrance to the theatre
beforehand. Our seats were in the third row of the stalls and we could see
and hear everything perfectly. Presently the lights went slowly down, then the
curtain rose upon a scene of the period of the Great Patriotic War. From the
very first minute I was deeply impressed by events. Actors were rather
young but the superb acting of the cast, beautiful costumes and sets gave a
real feeling of 1945. They did play magnificently. It really touched my soul.
I did enjoy the play very much!
