The Houses of Parliament is
a very large building. There are 2 towers and 1 of them is the Clock Tower. It was built in 1858.
The man in charge of the building was Sir Benjamin Hall. He was tall and the workers called him Big Ben.

The British Guards are one of the most important part
of the British Empire. There are several units of the guards: Foot Guards, Changing The Guards, Queen’s Guards, the Tower of London Guards and Windsor Castle Guard.

Buckingham Palace has been the London residence of British kings
and queens since 1830. When the monarch is living in the Palace the Royal Flag is flown from the flagstaff, high above the famous balcony on which the Royal family appear on special occasions.

have 4 children: Prince Charles, Prince Andrew, Prince Edward and Princess Ann.
In 1981 Prince Charles married Lady Diana who died in a car crash in1997. He has 2 sons: Prince William and Prince Harry.

Westminster Abbey
In 1050, Edward the Confessor began to build an Abbey. It
was finished in 1065. The Abbey was rebuilt in Gothic style. Henry VII added a beautiful chapel and Sir Christopher Wren designed the towers which were finished in 1740.

In April 1564 William Shakespeare was born at Henley Street. He was
the best world-known playwright. People called him “Sweet Swan of Avon”. Ever since W. Shakespeare has been known as the “Swan of Avon”

From the beginning kings lived there. Then it was a prison where many people died. Now the Tower is a museum. The royal black ravens live in the gardens of the Tower now.

of wood, then of stone. In 1831a new bridge rose. In 1960 the people of London wanted to build a large new bridge.
